A TOP-CLASS COACH EMPOWERING TOPCREW ATHLETES

Sam Dutney is a highly accomplished Australian rowing coach with a passion for helping busy rowers make the most of their limited time. As the Head Coach of TopCrew Academy, he brings a wealth of experience and expertise helping rowers of all ages achieve their full potential. Sam's journey in rowing began as a high-performing school and lightweight rower, winning three national

championships and culminating in multiple offers to US colleges. Today, he combines his extensive coaching experience with his academic background in teaching, coaching, strategy and exercise science to provide personalised online coaching that helps athletes train smarter, row faster and realise their ambitions.

Sam is also a proud father of twin boys.

Sam' coaching career spans over 18 years across Australia, including prestigious leadership roles such as:
 

  • Youth Head Coach at Toowong Rowing Club, one of Australia's premier high performance club programs.

  • Director of Rowing at Caulfield Grammar School, overseeing (at the time) Australia's largest school program.

  • Director of Rowing at Hunter Valley Grammar School, leading the program to a record 26 State Championship medals in two years.

  • Head Coach and Head of Rowing at Loreto Toorak, winning two Head of the Schoolgirls and the 1st VIII for the first time in history.
     

This is in addition to international coaching experience with Australian crews, extensive experience coaching masters rowers and 1st VIII coaching roles at Brisbane Boys College, St Joseph’s Gregory Terrace, St Peter’s Lutheran College and St Aidan’s Anglican Girls School. Sam holds Masters Degrees in Sport Coaching, as well as a Bachelor of Exercise & Sports Science and a Bachelor of Business Management from the University of Queensland. He is a Rowing Australia Level 3 Coach, and an accredited Level 2 Coach with the Australian Strength & Conditioning Association providing him with the academic and professional qualifications to support his extensive experience.
